So just like I said Freestyle, bow and arrow analogy, got Katniss here. If you’re pulling back on the bow, It’s a setup and then when you release the arrow from the bow, that’s the propulsive phase. So in backstroke the pullback, is the down kick, and then the release is the Up Kick Freestyle, opposite the pullback, is the Up Kick, and then the release is the down. So, still the same thing. Like if you have a crappy setup, whatever that setup phase is on either of those kicks, you’re gonna have a crappy propulsive phase, so you need one in order to be good at the other.
