So the last part that is similar to the Freestyle kick is kicking from the hips. As we said before, like kicking a soccer ball, you want to finish the Up Kick portion of the Backstroke kick through the surface and in front of the body. You want to see very minimal knee movement, so you don’t want the knees to kick through the surface. As you’re up kicking in Backstroke, you want the kick itself to be coming through the hip joint. The leg moving back and forth through that and breaks through the surfaces the toes do nothing.
