So this says everything that I said before, similar to a bow and arrow, the setup for Down Kick is like pulling back on the bow and arrow to create tension to get the arrow to fly far. Without pulling back on the bow you will be unable to get the arrow to fly very far or very fast, which is the Up Kick portion of the Backstroke kick. I love this analogy because it’s true with the kicks. You need one to do the other well. If you don’t, then you’re just not going to have a strong kick in general.
